we began in 1991 as an urban aid funded project called the drumchapel mental health consumer enablement project. we asked local volunteers to help us ask people what they wanted us to do to achieve the above, we asked everyone you could think of. the results of that were twofold: create community based mental health support services challenge the stigma around mental ill health listening to the voices of lived experience and seeking solutions together; including how to invest resources, has been core to our practice ever since. why do people use cope? most people who come to us are suffering mental or emotional distress but it’s not an illness its life. people come to cope for many reasons, in the main when they feel/think this just isn’t them and something needs to change. who funds cope?
